video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Hey folks, been a minute since my last upload. Life's been throwing its curveballs – between school and work, finding the mojo for videos got a bit tricky. But hey, I cooked up this chill, extended ambient piece on my modular system for you. It's raw, it's real. The channel's not dead – far from it. Big shoutout to the new subscribers holding it down. I'll be dropping in with more jams when I can. Cheers for riding the wave with me! 🤘🎹

Hey Patreon fam,

I wanted to drop a quick note and express my gratitude for your ongoing support. Lately, I've been juggling a ton with my school commitments, leaving me with little bandwidth for regular posts here. I'm currently knee-deep in the academic grind, and I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things once this chapter wraps up in the spring.

In the meantime, there's a treasure trove of content from my older videos waiting for you on the page – think patch notes, pictures, and even some PDF guides. Your support means the world, and I can't wait to dive back into more Patreon goodness soon. Thanks for your understanding and patience! 🙏🎶 #PatreonFamily

Short, Upbeat Modular Sketch No.1: | Eurorack + Moog Subsequent 37 CV |

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching! Wanted to make a short piece today, and challenged myself to also add some melody from the Moog Subsequent 37CV, which is rarely featured in my videos. Time to change that. I use it a lot in my production and sound design work, but since it is a CV version, I could, in theory, use it as part of my euro rack composition with the cv/gate outs. More music featuring the Moog is coming:) Thanks for watching!

Mysterious Eurorack Modular Piece | Instruō Arbhar, Lubadh, Cruinn, Harmonaig, Lion, øchd |

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
Took a month off from making YouTube videos, and moved into a new space in Brooklyn, from where you'll see a lot more content coming soon. I have some cool videos planned for the summer, but instead of having a strict upload schedule, like I had for the past two years, I'll just focus on making good content, and release videos on a rolling basis, and not be bound to a specific deadline. Hopefully, I'll average a video per week, but some videos may take longer to plan/produce, so just letting y'all know."

"Natural Movements" - Piotr Garbaczonek x Anders Nordstrom, Live Performance

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
#modularsynth #eurorack #electroacoustic
This piece was in development for the last few weeks. This take was our last practice run before a performance at NYU on May 10th, 2023. The performance was rushed, and we were only given approximately 10 minutes to play it, which is significantly shorter than we prepared, so, therefore, we are putting out this version instead. You'll find a brief description of each of the 3 movements in this piece at the beginning of the video. Feel free to pause in order to read without rushing. Enjoy!

Ambient eurorack modular soundscape inspired by the original Blade Runner film

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
"Take a look at my latest Eurorack modular synth patch! After a long day of school or work, it's always great to unwind with some patching. I spent over an hour creating a patch that features a stereo-brassy synth sound reminiscent of the iconic Yamaha CS-80. To achieve this, I used my Instruō Cruïnn module, expertly modulated by the øchd module. The audio signal is routed into the Qu-Bit Electronix Tone, a powerful quad filter with two Low Pass channels, each modulated by varying øchd's.

The output from these filter channels is then thoroughly managed by the Make Noise X-Pan module, which features modulated X-Fade and Pan parameters that are expertly controlled by two slow LFOs on separate øchd modules. The final signal passes through the Qu-Bit Aurora, which adds a touch of blur and mix to the sound before being routed to the VCA for additional volume control. Finally, the audio exits through the Expert Sleepers ES-9.

This patch is just one example of the endless possibilities of eurorack modular synthesis. Whether you're an experienced musician or just getting started, eurorack modules like these offer a world of sonic exploration and experimentation. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this immersive audio experience.

Insane Probability Sequencing with the Malekko Varigate 8+

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"For this project, I opted to make more of a drum-based piece. I wanted to specifically use the powers of one of the most powerful modules in my system, which is located in the bottom right corner. It's known as the Malekko Varigate 8+. It is an extremely complicated gate and CV sequencer with 8 gate channels and 2 CV channels for pitch sequencing, as well as additional secret digital menu settings like probability, which is an important aspect of my patch. I set my master clock to provide a consistent beat to Varigate 8+. Then I trigger all of the different drum parts from the sampler with the Malekko's randomly produced patterns, so the patterns should not repeat very often, if at all. The fun began when I chose to use this sequencer for all of the components of the composition, allowing me to separate a signal from numerous gate outputs and CV outputs and transmit it to offer pitch and melody to the various oscillators that I used for this.
Mutable Instruments Plaits was the only one that wasn't getting pitch, as it was receiving various modulations that would make it relatively meaningless to input pitch into because the changes created by it wouldn't be as obvious and needed at the moment. Instruō Cruïnn was the single oscillator into which I fed the CV output from Malekko. It is a phase-modulated, stereo oscillator having through-zero outputs that can be stereo, summed, or separate sawtooth outputs per voice. As you change the dispersion of the voices in the module, you get that pitch diffusion effect that becomes more pronounced near the finish of the composition.
During the performance, I am continually altering the number of high frequencies fed into the VCA and pre-effects to keep the stereo feel beautiful and dynamic. Such tasks are generally carried out using my left hand. My right hand is activating all of the different parts of the piece, which aren't necessarily pre-defined because this is an improvised composition, but I have some notion of what I'm going to do before I do it. Only when I need to modify the volume of the stereo oscillator inside the VCA before the 'drop' part of the time stop and then that riser and time start sequence do I use both hands in one activity? Everything comes to a halt when I hit that yellow button because everything in this patch is clocked to a master clock, so if I make it stop, everything stops. I'm also patching something more than a minute in, and it was basically just the output of a slow LFO, which would modulate the knob that modulates the parameters together inside of the Qu-Bit Chance module, which is what I'm using to control the majority of the modulation in this patch, which is changing the fm and cv inputs on two of my oscillators. By randomizing that value, detecting rhythm fluctuations throughout the song becomes even more difficult.

'Moonlight Sonata' - Eurorack Modular Rendition

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
#modular #eurorack #moonlightsonata

This time around all sounds that are being heard, come from the modular system, but the entire sequence is comprised of 4 monophonic MIDI tracks inside of Ableton. Each of the tracks has a CV Instrument plugin from the CV tools package. I am using my Expert Sleepers ES-9, which is a DC-coupled interface, which allows me to send clock data, CV, and Gate outputs directly from Ableton into eurorack modular without a need of a MIDI interface. I am using 4 monophonic tracks because the interface has 8 DC-coupled outputs, which are being used as follows:
1- Gate for melody track 1
The first gate out is going into the first input on the Ornament & Crime Digital Multi-function module in 4 x EG mode, which gives it 4 variable-clock envelope generators with a visual oscilloscope. From there, gate output from o_C goes into Mutable Instruments Plaits as a trigger input. The output of plaits goes through the first channel of Qu-Bit Tone for filtering, and then into the first channel on a quad VCA, and then into the first audio output on the ES-9.
2- Pitch/CV for melody track 1
The first pitch/CV out is going into the 1V/Oct input on the Mutable Instruments Plaits, to control the pitch of it, directly from Ableton’s first monophonic track.
3- Gate from melody track 2
The 2nd gate out is going into the Ornament & Crime’s (o_C) second envelope generator. Then it goes into the Strum input on the Mutable Instruments Rings, which is the 2nd oscillator in this patch. From Rings we have the identical signal patch as on the first track, but on the 2nd channel of each subsequent module. (Filter → VCA → Out)
4- Pitch/CV for melody track 2
The second pitch/CV out is going into the 1V/Oct input on the Mutable Instruments Rings, to control the pitch of it, directly from Ableton’s second monophonic track.
5- Gate for melody track 3
The 3rd gate out is going into the Ornament & Crime’s (o_C) second envelope generator. Then it goes into the CV input on 3rd channel of my VCA: Mutable Instruments Veils. Then it goes right into the audio output 3 on the ES-9.
6- Pitch/CV for melody track 3
The third pitch/CV out is going into the 1V/Oct input on the Instruō Cš-L (Dual Complex Oscillator), to control the pitch of it, directly from Ableton’s third monophonic track.
7- Gate for melody track 4
The 4th gate out is going into the Ornament & Crime’s (o_C) second envelope generator. Then it goes into the CV input on the 4th channel of my VCA: Mutable Instruments Veils. Then it goes right into the audio output 4 on the ES-9.
8- Pitch/CV for melody track 4
The fourth pitch/CV out is going into the second channel’s 1V/Oct input on the Instruō Cš-L (Dual Complex Oscillator), to control the pitch of it, directly from Ableton’s third monophonic track.

Now we get into the surround and miscellaneous modulations, which control the piece’s stereo movement, giving it spaciousness and an emotional feel. The output from Mutable Instruments Plaits is split, the first route is going just like it is described in the first 2 points above. The split output is going into the Mutable Instruments Clouds (which is being heavily modulated by the Divkid øchd module (8 drifting LFO). And then from there, it is going stereo l/r out into the ES-9s extra inputs. The Rings output follows the same convention, as it is also being split, but it on the other hand goes through Instruō Arbhar, and then into Instruō Lúbadh for additional processing. The stereo output from Arbhar is going into the ES-9, and one of the outputs from there is being split to also go into the Lúbadh. (Arbhar is a granular processor, and Lúbadh is a digital 2-track reel-to-reel tape machine)

Additional multi-band compression, EQ, and Limiting are done in the post inside of Ableton on the Bus level to minimize the unnecessarily large amount of processing, for a clear modular tonality.

Synthesis Technology MOTM: My First Ambient Encounter (Mother Of The Modulars)

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
I had a difficult time getting the sound into Pro Tools, so I ended up recording everything extremely quietly with a number of clicks, which I tried to eliminate in RX after recording. Aside from that, I added some more processing to make the ambient drone experience more pleasant. I'll try to record it with more attention and comprehension the next time. Otherwise, for the actual patch, I just used everything this system had to give, and surprisingly the synth stayed in tune because the room I was working in was 53 degrees Fahrenheit, and I wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible after getting one take done. Till next time!

NEW!! Ambient Explorations pt.38 (FabFilter Twin 3)

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

Thanks for watching!
The FabFilter Twin 3 Synthesizer plugin came out today, so I wanted to take the advantage of it and make an ambient piece as soon as possible. All the sounds you hear were created from the Twin 3, I am also using Fab Filters Q-3. MB, C-2, and L-2 for mixing this track, as well as some Valhalla Shimmer for the long-release goodness, which is quite vital in this genre.
Enjoy!

Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene Pt.4 (Synthesizer Cover: Juno 60, Sub37CV, ARP Odyssey, eurorack etc.)

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
It was always on my list to make a cover of this classic electronic tune that was and still is one of my biggest inspirations in electronic music. I used all of my keyboard synthesizers for this one to try and replicate Jean-Michel Jarre's incredible vintage synthesizer collection.
For this project, I used the following:
- Roland Juno 60 (chords/background)
- ARP Odyssey (noise, lasers, lead line)
- Moog Subsequent 37 CV (Various bass elements via MIDI)
- Eurorack Modular for some small parts and minor elements

Also, Happy Birthday to my dad, who is the one that showed me Jean-Michel Jarre's biggest hits album close to 15 years ago, and unknowingly planted that electronic music passion in me. I decided to make this cover for his birthday today."

Ambient Improvisation Using ARP Odyssey & Blue Marvin 2600 Inspired By Jean-Michel Jarre

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
Made a little improvisation piece using the Blue Marvin 2600 and the Korg/ARP Odyssey. I only have one input on the UAD Volt interface, so I am running the ARP Odyssey output through the Blue Marvin's Ring Mod Input on the VCA side. It seems to be working quite well, allowing me to still use Blue Marvin's 3 oscillators in conjunction with it, so that's quite nice. The eurorack modules are used to control both the Blue Marvin and the Odyssey. From clocking, sequencing, modulation, and filtering. I wanted to replicate the EMS Synthi used countless times by Jean Michel Jarre during his live performances as a crazy laser machine. Combined with a smooth chord drone on the Blue Marvin and a bit of its internal spring reverb, it is a pleasant little journey. Cheers!

Ambient sounds of outer space | Neutral Labs Pip & Nijel, Blue Marvin, Deckard's Voice | (20 min)

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
I made a 20-minute soundscape video that sounds like the 70s and 80s depiction of music from outer space. Everything is coming out of the Blue Marvin's stereo output, as I don't have any VCAs. Here is the list of modules I used and how they play into the function of the piece:
- Neutral Labs Pip (Clock and CV output)
- Instruō Harmonàig (Quantizer (random melody generator in A Phrygian))
- Instruō/Divkid øchd (overall modulation to a bunch of parameters around the patch)
- Black Corporation Deckard's Voice (Main oscillator on the eurorack side)
- Serge by Random*Source Variable Q VCF (Filter to which Deckard'd Voice is connected (VC F and VC Q parameters modulated by øchd))
- Neutral Labs Nijel (Drive effect for Oscillator 3 in Blue Marvin 2600's Sine Wave, the amount is modulated by øchd's slowest LFO)
- Behringer Blue Marvin 2600 ( 1st and third oscillators, various modulations and internal spring reverb)

In Ableton, I have Valhalla Shimmer on, Other Desert Cities by Audio Damage, and some light EQ and compression.

Cool Ambient Patch on Blue Marvin 2600 & Eurorack ( Instruō Tágh & Harmonàig; Elements & Ripples)

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
Made a cool experimental patch using the Blue Marvin 2600 and some eurorack modules below it on the TipTop Audio Happy Ending Kit.
The modules I am using are:
- Instruō Tágh (Sample and hold out to Harmonàig)
- Instruō Harmonàig (Quantization and gate output to MI Elements)
- Instruō/Divkid øchd (Modulation to various places)
- Mutable Instruments Elements (Main Stereo Oscillator, first out goes through Ripples and then out; second out goes through 2600's filter and then out)
- Mutable Instruments Ripples for low-pass-filtering one of Element's outputs
- 2hp Mult for splitting stuff

After going out stereo into Universal Audio Volt interface and into Ableton Live, it goes through Other Desert Cities by Audio Damage, a very cool effects processor, as well as some shimmer. I am also using Blue Marvin's built-in spring Reverb to some extent.
